The Moluccas Room

It is rather difficult for me to define the type of cuisine that is served by the Moluccas Room. Should it be classified as Indonesian food that has been given the touch of class or should it be considered to be more of a modern indonesian cuisine with an aussie twist.

We had a starter of chicken and angus beef sate and gado gado. The chicken sate was tender and had been well marinated and came with a spicy peanuty dip. The angus beef sate was cooked perfectly to nice medium rare and had come with a chili soy dip that added yet another dimension to the traditional dish.

The gado gado was presented more like a western salad and traditionalists might not like it but we enjoyed it all the same. The only gripe we had was that it could have came with a more generous serving of peanut sauce!

We had the rendang beef angus and the sambal prawns for mains. The rendang beef angus was presented more like a steak than traditional rendang but we did enjoy the tender beef steak with the rendang sauce. The sambal prawns were good but the only thing that could have made them better would be slightly fresher shrimps but I guess you can’t have everything in life.

We ended the meal with homemade ice-cream.

The meal was kind of pricey for the type of food that was served but I heard from my friend that they do serve some pretty decent rice sets for lunch so we might still return to check that out.
