Seafood Tagliatelle in Sambal Balachan

Home-cook dinner on a nice Wednesday evening for me and a friend. Was thinking of what I should cook for dinner while looking through the contents of my fridge and my food cabinet when inspiration hit. I had prawns, mussels, squid and bacon available and I decided to try my hand at a fusion dish, Seafood Tagliatelle in Sambal Balachan.

Wanna know what my friend said? My friend said that this reminded him of MeePoh Tah … Wat a joke, he must have not eaten MeePoh Tan in a long time to say this … keke

Seafood Tagliatelle in Sambal Balachan (serves 4)


1. 200g of fresh sea-prawns
2. 200g of fresh mussels
3. 300g of squid/calamari (cleaned and ringed)
4. 200g of bacon
5. 3 red onions, finely chopped
6. 200ml seafood stock
7. 50ml fresh cream
8. 400g of Tagliatelle
9. 2 tablespoon of olive oil
10. 5 tablespoon of sambal balachan
11. Salt and pepper, to taste


1. Place 2 tablespoon of olive oil in a heated plan
2. Add ½ the onions and stir fry
3. Add 2 tablespoon of sambal balachan
4. Add prawns, mussels, squid and bacon stir fry for 3 minutes
5. Add Tagliatelle (Cooked in boiling water for 4 minutes) and stir fry
6. Add seafood stock and cream bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes
7. Add the 3 tablespoons of sambal balachan and mix well
8. Simmer for another 5 minutes, stirring once in awhile to prevent the food from getting burn.
9. Plate and Serve
