Japengon Café

The first Japengo Café opened 5 years ago in Palm Strip Jumeirah and is known for being a cafe that provide pretty decent salads and pan-asian cuisine including sushi and the Yakitori selection – Japanese barbeque fish, meats and vegetables.

The café features a bar style seating area for fast informal dining with a view into the kitchen to watch the chefs at work, plus a more intimate table seating area towards the back of the café.

Was shopping at the Mall of the Emirates when a friend offered to buy me dinner, it was really crowded in the Mall, so we decided to have something that could be served to us quickly. Japengo Cafe was where we decided to eat out dinner.

Couldn’t come to a decision on what to eat and thus I had what my friend recommended, the Katsudon (Fried Chicken Cutlet Curry with Rice) for 55AED or SGD$21.50. The chicken cutlet was tender and flavourful but the curry was pretty much what you can get out package, nothing impressive. The rice was a total disappoint, I was expecting nice fluffy short grain rice but was served thai jasmine rice instead!!! The salad dressing was nice and tangy with a touch of onions.

Well at the end of the day I guess that the food was of an acceptable standard but I guess it just ain’t that easy to get nice affordable Japanese Food most of the time.
